Description of “le19M Marseilles”:
Satoshi Sekimoto invited by le19M in Marseille
In May 2024, Marseille became the stage chosen by CHANEL to unveil its Cruise 2024/25 collection and to celebrate the synergies between fashion, craftsmanship, and the cultural heritage of the Mediterranean. As an extension of this momentum, le19M, the Parisian hub dedicated to exceptional savoir-faire, opened the temporary Galerie du 19M Marseille at Fort Saint-Jean and organized the “Mains d’Avenir” event at the Palais du Pharo.
On this occasion, Satoshi SEKIMOTO, Meilleur Ouvrier de France in Haute Couture Embroidery and Maître Artisan d’Art, was invited by le19M to represent Atelier Montex, with which he had collaborated for many years. His role extended beyond technical expertise: he oversaw part of the coordination between the Parisian workshop and local teams, bringing both a rigorous eye and a mastery of the gestures inherited from Haute Couture.
Participatory workshops: opening embroidery to a wider audience
At the Galerie du 19M Marseille, visitors discovered the art of embroidery through participatory workshops inspired by the works of artist Emilie Seto. On printed textile reproductions, each participant was invited to embellish surfaces with beads, sequins, rhinestones, and seed beads,… guided by the artisans on site. A collective and sensory experience, revealing embroidery as a living art, accessible and deeply emotional.
On May 22 and 23, 2024, the “Mains d’Avenir” event extended this initiative at the Palais du Pharo. Targeted toward students and individuals exploring career transitions, these workshops highlighted the richness of fashion crafts. Roundtable discussions further enriched the program, placing knowledge transmission at the heart of the event.
A shared vision: tradition and innovation
Satoshi SEKIMOTO’s participation in le19M Marseille reflects a core belief of Maison Sekimoto: embroidery, born of Haute Couture, is destined to engage in dialogue with other disciplines: design, architecture, decorative arts,… and to encounter new audiences.
This resonance with artists, students, and enthusiasts demonstrates the vitality of these crafts and their ability to remain rooted in the present while shaping the future.
